Huntly Community Board
Electing 6 Board Members

My principal place of residence is in the Huntly Community Board area.

This will be my third term as a member of the Huntly Community Board should I get re-elected. I was Chairperson of the Huntly College Board of Trustees from 2002 till 2012 as well as an active volunteer in the community as a member of Friendship House trust and Let’s Get Together Huntly.

My governance experience is decades long and my graduate diploma in Economic Development and nearly thirty years’ experience in economic and community development allows me to bring a business and strategic focus to the board.

My approach to Huntly’s well being has been from a big picture perspective, I am interested and actively encourage big projects that will impact on our standard of living, I have been fortunate enough to work with board colleagues who have been focussed and energetic about our communities gardens, footpaths, flags in the main street, clock etc.

I love my community.

I enjoy upskilling myself and working in various areas of need. I’m passionate about sports, and have an absolute commitment to encourage and promote sports in the Huntly community for everyone.

I’m a local resident and ratepayer, public safety and wellbeing of our community are very important to me.

I will bring a fresh perspective to the role and am keen to voice concerns and solutions where needed.

Ko Ngati Porou raua ko Ngati Kahungunu ooku iwi engari, toku manawa, toku kainga, toku turangawaewae ki Rahui Pokeka.

I’m of Ngati Porou and Ngati Kahungunu descent however, Huntly is my heart, my home and my heritage.

I co-facilitate “Harty Sistaz” Huntly Girls Youth Group, Huntly RSA Committee member, PSA Union Delegate and I hate litter!

I stand for our town and people because I’m tired of Huntly being trashed by the media, outsiders, criminals, litterers and even our own people.

I want Huntly to have nice things, be trusted and respected again.

I want to ensure support for community-lead initiatives that unite, uplift and protect our people, our businesses and our land.

My priorities are accurate representation of, and equal investment in, our community, both sides of the river, rural and urban, business and residential.

A strong, united voice to gain positive change and outcomes for our home, Huntly.

WHYTE, David

My principal place of residence is not in the Huntly Community Board area.

A researcher by profession, I am excellent at asking the right questions, not giving up until I have an answer, quick to learn and able to creatively solve problems. Have already developed a great working relationship with many councillors and council staff due to multiple interactions over service requests as well as written and oral submissions. These submissions have been very well received and some have been successful in changing council outcomes. Successfully facilitated residents feedback into the council reserves consultation last year. Lastly have been attending community board meetings for some time, many with community feedback, so can hit the ground running.

My goals are to increase the level of service the council provides to Huntly via increasing the number of service requests raised and to listen and liaise between the community and the council so that Huntly’s voice is increased at Council.
