Eureka Ward
Electing 1 Councillor

GOODWIN, Elizabeth

My principal place of residence is in the Eureka Ward area.

Residence: The Eureka Ward has been my place of residence for 32 years, and together with my husband, we have raised a family here. I grew up in the north of the Waikato on a beef and sheep farm.

My work experience includes: Science, business, construction industry and local government. This is supported by the following qualifications: PhD – Marine Biology; MSc honours – Freshwater Biology; MBA – business management. What I will bring: Robust and responsible decision making. I’m known for my integrity, responsiblity, courage and collaborative problem solving.

My vision: By working together we can harness the potential of the Waikato to support business growth and employment while managing our environment, and creating a desirable place to live and work. The people of the Waikato District are the key to our future. Listening to and harnessing your creative ideas, knowledge and experience is critical to the District’s success.

My principal place of residence is in the Eureka Ward area.

I am a descendent of settlers who arrived in the Waikato during the late 1800’s – I reside in Puketaha, in Eureka Ward.

As Ward Councillor I have initiated the establishment of: Community Committees, whose members are, for me and Council, an invaluable link with residents; walkways/cycleways; heritage committees striving to identify and preserve local history. I have also encouraged Council to purchase land for community use, supported infrastructure and safety initiatives.

Present roles, additional to membership of Council Standing Committees, include representing the District on: District Funding Committees, Hauraki Gulf Forum, Waikato Heritage Forum, local Heritage Committee, Central Waikato Catchment Committee.

I am standing for re-election – I have the support of my family and the time to dedicate to this role. I especially enjoy community interaction and the challenges involved in meeting the expectations of residents living in this rapidly evolving Ward and the wider community.
